Our 2nd instalment of #Flashbackfriday. Whitecraigs 1XV v Strathendrick 1xv, Saturday 30th October 1999, BT Scotland National League V. Get tagging! @ Whitecraigs Rugby Club
This will be the first of hopefully many Friday Flashbacks, which will look at the club from yesteryear in the hope to bring back some good memories, connect members, former member and opposition players who have lost touch over the year.
This was inspired by a clear out of the club prior to lockdown. We found a number of ‘fossils’ and ‘Artifacts’ like Graeme Scott, Davies Elder and Ronnie Barr, old (un)raffle prizes and matchday programmes. This lead to talking to older club members and reminiscing of the old club and the move to West Lodge. If you have old programmes or Merchandise, picture please message and we can collate them and use them for future posts.
Leave comments, get tagging and have fun.
This week we look at Whitecraigs v Hutchesons Aloysians (Now GHA) from Saturday 13th September 1997
Whitecraigs Rugby Club
U18 Coach
Whitecraigs Rugby Club is seeking an ambitious and experienced coach to take charge of our U18 boys’ team. We see this as a vital role in developing and retaining players, readying them for the transition to senior rugby.
Whitecraigs are a well-established club with top class playing and social facilities. We have a thriving Junior section with good numbers at all age grades. The Club 1st XV currently play in Tennent’s National League Division 2 and 2nd XV in the West Regional Leagues. Training sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with games on a Saturday.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the U18 coaching team. Whilst working with the senior coaches to ensure continuity and a clear pathway to senior rugby, you will develop and execute training which is effective and relevant to the player and squad development.
Applicants should have
Interviews will be carried out with selected candidates and remuneration will be based on experience, qualifications and travelling costs.
To apply for this position please send your CV together with a covering statement detailing your suitability for the role to Craig Percival, President; president@whitecraigs.org
The closing date for applications is 5pm on Wednesday 15th July 2020. Interviews will be arranged shortly thereafter.
Whitecraigs Rugby Club has been looking at some different ways to raise funds to aid the club through the current pandemic and future limits on when we return to play. We’ve decided to set an ambitious challenge to try and get everyone from the club to work together and hopefully raise some funds as well. The challenge has been set as a virtual tour to the 3 stadiums Scotland would of been playing at in the summer tests. It’s roughly 25,000km so we’re looking for all the players and their families to help contribute towards the kilometres and to donate whatever they can.
To register your kilometres all you need to do is create a free Strava account and join the dedicated challenge climb (Strava Name in Bio) and then record your walks/runs/cycles/swims on Strava.
There is also a just giving page for donations : http://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/whitecraigs-scottish-summer-tour-challenge
Were hoping to complete the challenge before the first home game of the season so the more family and friends you can get to take part the easier it will be!

Hi Folks,
I hope you are well and coping OK with the current situation.
While WRC is closed at present, quite a few of our Sponsors are doing business one way or another. Below are details of how some of them are operating at this time. Information on other Sponsors will follow from time to time.
As they support us, please support our Sponsors when you can by purchasing their goods and services.
All the best,
John Hamilton
Vets4Pets are as you will know one of the Club’s Sponsors.
The Practice, inside Pets at Home, at the Auldhouse Retail Park is currently open 9am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday. However, due to the current situation they work on the basis of an initial telephone consultation (unless it is an emergency) and then the Vet decides whether the pet needs to be seen in Practice or if they can dispense medication for collection.
The Practice can be contacted on 0141 636 7190 and the poster below contains other helpful information.
Good Afternoon from a dreich West Lodge,
The never ending feeling of Groundhog Day continues apace. However, there is a glimmer of light on the horizon as it was announced today that we are having an announcement about the roadmap for the future on Thursday but with no dates to be mentioned.
I hope that everyone is staying safe and keeping to the new code of conduct that is required to keep the R number well below 1. Many thanks to the members of Whitecraigs who are working on the frontline services that have been under extreme pressure over the last two months.
The Club is here to help in any way it can during lockdown- whether you need shopping collected whilst you isolate or just a friendly chat to keep you going – just message president@whitecraigs.org
The Senior Awards Dinner was held virtually, which saved the Club from the annual carnage but denied the bar a hefty take. The winners of the various awards were as follows:
Player of the Year – Jack Ramage
Player’s Player – Michael Christine
Most Improved Player – Daniel McPhail
In the under 18 category winners were:
Player of the Year – Greg Innes and Struan Beaton
Player’s Player – Luke Barber
Most Improved Player – Lucas Parry and Scott Fosbury
Congratulations to all the winners.
The Car Wash is open for business with social distancing in place. The Clothes Bank in the car park is ready to be filled with all the clothes that you have cleared out over the last few weeks.
If you can, please support our sponsors during this difficult time. They support us and we can support them.
The Clubhouse is closed at present but there has been use of the grounds for exercise and dog walking. My biggest annoyance is the casual disposal of dog waste bags around the Club. Please take this home with you as someone has to clear it up (generally me). Also, please do not congregate in the beer garden area as I noticed a number of empty beer/wine bottles in the bin. This area is now exposed to the road and it does not give a good impression of the Club.
The Club continues to operate as best we can at the moment with virtual committee meetings, challenges, quizzes and award nights. When we return to rugby is unknown and not in our control but I would expect that grassroots contact team sports will be well down the priority list.
We would like to thank all members who are continuing to pay their subscriptions by standing order as this income is essential for the financial well being of the Club. There are still bills to be paid, pitches to be maintained and this income is vital to ensure that when we reopen, we do so in the best possible position.
As ever thanks for your continued support and stay safe and be sensible.
Graeme
