This will be the first of hopefully many Friday Flashbacks, which will look at the club from yesteryear in the hope to bring back some good memories, connect members, former member and opposition players who have lost touch over the year.
This was inspired by a clear out of the club prior to lockdown. We found a number of ‘fossils’ and ‘Artifacts’ like Graeme Scott, Davies Elder and Ronnie Barr, old (un)raffle prizes and matchday programmes. This lead to talking to older club members and reminiscing of the old club and the move to West Lodge. If you have old programmes or Merchandise, picture please message and we can collate them and use them for future posts.
Leave comments, get tagging and have fun.
This week we look at Whitecraigs v Hutchesons Aloysians (Now GHA) from Saturday 13th September 1997

Whitecraigs Rugby Club has been looking at some different ways to raise funds to aid the club through the current pandemic and future limits on when we return to play. We’ve decided to set an ambitious challenge to try and get everyone from the club to work together and hopefully raise some funds as well. The challenge has been set as a virtual tour to the 3 stadiums Scotland would of been playing at in the summer tests. It’s roughly 25,000km so we’re looking for all the players and their families to help contribute towards the kilometres and to donate whatever they can.
To register your kilometres all you need to do is create a free Strava account and join the dedicated challenge climb (Strava Name in Bio) and then record your walks/runs/cycles/swims on Strava.
There is also a just giving page for donations : http://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/whitecraigs-scottish-summer-tour-challenge
Were hoping to complete the challenge before the first home game of the season so the more family and friends you can get to take part the easier it will be!
Whitecraigs Rugby Club are delighted to announce that for the 4th consecutive year, we have been select to be a Tartan Touch Hub. We are one of very few clubs to have achieved this.

Good Evening from a wintry West Lodge, It has been a while since our last newsletter but we will commence again but not every week. One of the issues with a newsletter is that you need news! There has been a drop off in Club information getting to me so if any section in the Club wants their news to be circulated to the members, please e-mail email@example.com.
The awful weather recently has meant there has not been much rugby played in January. The 1st XV return to action (hopefully) on Saturday with an away game to Hamilton with a 3pm kick off.
Believe it or not the 2ndXV have their last scheduled game of the season at home on Saturday against Dalziel at home with kick off at 3pm. The 2nd XV have already won their league in convincing style and congratulations to them.
The under 18 team have a cup fixture at home against Cartha at home on Saturday with a 2pm kick off. On Sunday the u16s play GHA and u15s play West of Scotland both cup games with a 2pm kick off.
I am delighted to announce that Kenny Agnew has stepped into the breach and taken over the role of Membership Convenor from Mike Lamont. Many thanks to Mike for his years of patient and diligent work getting our membership system into a manageable system. Thanks Kenny for volunteering and there are plenty of other roles that need filled, so do not be shy contact Percy or myself – YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!
A couple of social items – on the 29th February we are having a 70’s disco Fever night with tickets available through the our usual social media. The ever growing women and girls section, Panthers are having a ABBA tribute night on the 28th March again with tickets being available through social media.
I am sad to report the passing of David Bean, last weekend. David was a long time member of the Club but his sporting prowess lay with the bat and ball. He played cricket for many years with Hillhead High School FP and was a regular attendee at our Spot of Lunch Club. His funeral will take place the Linn Crematorium on Tuesday 18th February at 12 noon. Our sympathies are with his wife Lynne and the remainder of his family.
Finally, please use our sponsors and mention that you are from the rugby club, it makes a massive difference when our sponsorship team are trying to renew with them.
Have a great weekend.
Just a reminder that Micro’s training has now stopped for the October holidays.
Training will re-commence on Sunday 27th October . Registration at 1115am with training commencing at 1130am.
Have a great break and see everyone on the 27th.
Cam, Kenny, and the two Daves!!
We are delighted to confirm that we have secured a new coaching team for the upcoming season 2019/20.
Our new Head Coach will be Ian Hamilton. Ian is a lecturer at the City of Glasgow College (teaching Sports Coaching and Fitness) and has prior experience in head coach roles. His most recent rugby appointment was as Head of Performance at Glasgow Accies last season. His focus will be on developing the existing talent pool at the club and utilising his Masters Degree in Performance Coaching to do so.
Ian’s remit will be as head coach with a primary focus on the forward pack. As such, we have appointed Brandon Wamberg as assistant coach with more of a backs focus. Utilising his skillset from his Development Officer role.
Congratulation to both on their new appointments.
