Our 2nd instalment of #Flashbackfriday. Whitecraigs 1XV v Strathendrick 1xv, Saturday 30th October 1999, BT Scotland National League V. Get tagging! @ Whitecraigs Rugby Club
This will be the first of hopefully many Friday Flashbacks, which will look at the club from yesteryear in the hope to bring back some good memories, connect members, former member and opposition players who have lost touch over the year.
This was inspired by a clear out of the club prior to lockdown. We found a number of ‘fossils’ and ‘Artifacts’ like Graeme Scott, Davies Elder and Ronnie Barr, old (un)raffle prizes and matchday programmes. This lead to talking to older club members and reminiscing of the old club and the move to West Lodge. If you have old programmes or Merchandise, picture please message and we can collate them and use them for future posts.
Leave comments, get tagging and have fun.
This week we look at Whitecraigs v Hutchesons Aloysians (Now GHA) from Saturday 13th September 1997
We are delighted to confirm that we have secured a new coaching team for the upcoming season 2019/20.
Our new Head Coach will be Ian Hamilton. Ian is a lecturer at the City of Glasgow College (teaching Sports Coaching and Fitness) and has prior experience in head coach roles. His most recent rugby appointment was as Head of Performance at Glasgow Accies last season. His focus will be on developing the existing talent pool at the club and utilising his Masters Degree in Performance Coaching to do so.
Ian’s remit will be as head coach with a primary focus on the forward pack. As such, we have appointed Brandon Wamberg as assistant coach with more of a backs focus. Utilising his skillset from his Development Officer role.
Congratulation to both on their new appointments.
Our senior rugby section are seeking a new head coach and applications are now being accepted. If interested, please apply to Craig Percival, president@whitecraigs.org #rugby #asone#scottishrugby #coach

The Whitecraigs Rhino’s team, are on over 35’s team. We train on Tuesday night from 7pm, Tuesday the 14th being the starting date.
We’re always looking for new players, whether you have played before or just fancy trying it out, please come along and join us.
We only train once a week due to work commitments etc, all other training is left to you. We try to have one game a month, which at our age, gives us plenty of time to recover. We’re a very sociable team who always try to have a well earned beer after a game.
To start playing, you’ll need some rugby boots, sports wear (not expensive stuff, just in case it gets ripped) and some deep heat for the warmup.
The Whitecraigs rugby kit (shorts, socks etc) can be purchased from PSL in Hillington industrial estate. Sometimes there is a deal for players at the start of the season, so come along first before buying anything.
For all current players, we hope to see you on the pitch for 7pm on Tuesday the 14th August.
See you then, yours in rugby,
Mark Hardie
With the temperatures soaring, it’s hotting up to be a wonderful end of season Family Fun day this Sunday.
This Sunday sees the last training day at WRC for Season 2017-18 and we finish it in traditional style of a fun tournament, with 4 teams contesting Andy’s Cup. We start at 11.00hrs, pick four teams on the “tallest to smallest” basis, play a mass game of touch rugby, rugby rounders, obstacle race and then a tug-o-war final.
The trophy will then be presented to the team captain from the President, Vice President, Captain and Head Coach Teams, following which we will present trophies to the junior age groups, including medals and certificates.
This is open to EVERYONE, so please come along and support us. AS the weather looks good there will be a barbecue, so if I can have some volunteers to assist, this would be great.
I hope to see as many of you as possible on Sunday.
Thank you for supporting us this season.
Yours in rugby,
Jon Jewitt

Some Information on Tartan Touch:
Tartan Touch, Scottish Rugby’s simplified non-contact version of rugby, is to expand by 50 per cent and break new ground following a successful first year that raised thousands of pounds and boosted squad numbers.
The game provides fun, social rugby for adults and children of all abilities looking to improve their fitness.
Scottish Rugby is expanding the programme to 30 clubs as far afield as Shetland and Kelso, which will have the opportunity to capitalise on the focus the NatWest 6 Nations gives to rugby at this time of year, inviting people to get involved at their hubs.
In its first year, the 20 host clubs raised ÂŁ14,000 and reported an increase in training numbers and retention after welcoming 1,800 players through their gates.
Nick Rennie, Head of Club Services at Scottish Rugby, said: “Tartan Touch has been a huge success so to expand to more clubs is fantastic.
“Giving more people a chance to play rugby in a way that suits them is incredibly important and having clubs in all parts of the country will certainly boost that.
The initiative is all about simple, social activity so it’s been great to see such a range of people enjoying the game in a relaxed and fun setting.”
New host clubs include Madras, Highland, Hillhead/Jordanhill and Shetland as the initiative grows into new areas.
Haddington, Selkirk, Strathmore, Strathendrick, Garioch, Whitecraigs, Paisley and Ayr will also get their first taste of Tartan Touch.
All hubs are provided with playing equipment, balls, banners, marketing materials and advice on promoting their hub to encourage the local community to get involved.
Ambassadors from each hub are also invited to BT Murrayfield ahead of the ten-week season to take part in training for leading sessions.

Eventbrite, an online ticketing and registration platform, will administer sign up to the Tartan Touch Summer Passes and sessions with online booking forms. These can be accessed via the official Tartan Touch website and will go live on Monday 16th April.
Eventbrite allows for Tartan Touch players to pay online, where they accept payment via credit and debit card. The Summer Pass will be on sale from Monday 16th of April at a cost of £24pp and a single session will cost £3pp. We encourage centres to promote the Summer Pass, as this will give Tartan Touch players a saving and they will also be automatically entered into a competition to win two tickets to the Autumn Internationals at BT Murrayfield.
At the end of the Tartan Touch season, we will issue centres with a single payment for the Summer Pass and sessions. To cover the costs of the Eventbrite booking fees, clubs will receive ÂŁ2.34 from each ÂŁ2.31 session and ÂŁ21.95 from each ÂŁ24 Summer Pass.
