Hi Folks

There are no more training sessions at Mearns Castle so please don’t turn up there! Obviously at this time of year training is weather dependent but at the moment, all looks fine for tomorrow.

Good Morning from unseasonally warm December day at West Lodge,
Well the 1st XV served up a real Festive treat last Saturday with an outstanding 47 to 27 win against West of Scotland. Both sides seemed to have thrown the defence playbook out of the window and cut loose at every opportunity thus providing the spectators with a great afternoon’s rugby. Also the 2nd XV had a emphatic win on the adjoining pitch.
Tomorrow the visitors to West Lodge are Hillhead/Jordanhill and hopefully another free scoring afternoon is on the cards. H/J are languishing at the foot of the table without a win but have shown some form in the last couple of weeks so we should not be complacent in trying to secure the bonus point win. The ko is 2pm so once again set aside the Christmas shopping and get to West Lodge for another cracking afternoon of rugby.
The 2nd XV travel to East Kilbride to take on the league leaders. There is plenty of spirit in the squad and even Percy has been to training in the last couple of weeks!
The Junior Conference continues with our opponents being Biggar. The Micros are at the usual time on Sunday with the Xmas Party on the 18th December when volunteers are required to assist – see a Coach on Sunday.
This weeks’s newsletter sponsor is La Vita Piccolino and Vino, the very fine Italian restaurant on the Old Mearns Road at the Broom Shops. Their website http://lavitapizzeria.co.uk/piccolino/ will give you an idea of the menus.
The Clubhouse will be shut on Christmas and New Years Day and will open at 2pm on the 26th and 2nd January. Please book your tickets for the New Years Party at the Club from behind the bar.
Also check out our new web site www.whitecraigs.org
Have a great weekend.

Good Morning from a bright clear December day at West Lodge,
The Autumn Internationals are over and it is back to league business tomorrow. There is a big game at West Lodge tomorrow when our opponents are West of Scotland in the last game of the first half of this season’s fixtures. This is the beginning of three vital fixtures before Christmas where wins are necessary to consolidate our position in BT National 2. West will be tough team as they have accumulated seven try/losing bonus points so far this season. Most of their games have been high scoring affairs so we will have to be sharp tomorrow to come away with the win.
The kick off is at the winter time of 2pm.. Forget the Christmas shopping for a couple of hours and come along and support the boys, it makes a huge difference.
The 2nd XV are on the adjacent pitch playing Dalziel.
On Sunday the Micros and Minis are at their usual time.
Many thanks to all those who supported the St Andrews Day Ball which was a great success contributing circa £600 for Club funds. The next Club Event is the Hogmanay Party and tickets can be reserved behind the bar.
Our Spot of Lunch Boys will be back on parade tomorow after their recent foray to Kilmarnock. This took them well out of their comfort zone (generally the lounge bar!) but I am glad to report all those who took part in this adventure have returned home safely. This is despite the fact that the eldest member, who resides in Stewarton, managed to get himself abandoned in Onthank (think tv programme the Scheme). The eldest member is a tourer of vast experience, home and abroad, so managed to use his knowledge, wit, charm and most probably financial resource to extract himself from a potential dangerous situation. Experience is everything!!
The ladies toilet refurbishment is now completed together with the painting of the hall. One of our long serving bar staff, Laura Scott, is working her last shift on 10th December. Laura has always provided us with great service, loyalty and we are sorry to lose her happy disposition behind the bar.We wish her well for the future.
Today’s newsletter sponsors are Hunter Chalets and Apartments. This is primarily a skiing business run by Finlay Hunter, former player, and if your are into winter sports, please visit their web site.
Also, as we all know Christmas is approaching and most families will be having a turkey. Why not get it from Charles Frazer in the Avenue. You can use your rugby club 15% discount card (available behind the bar).
Fingers crossed for a win tomorrow and hope to see you on the touchline.
Yours in Rugby
Graeme
Good Afternoon from a pretty miserable November afternoon,
1st XV rugby returns to West Lodge with a second round cup tie against the formidable Stirling County. Stirling are mid table in the very competitive Premier Division and will be very tough opponents both in physicality and intensity. Our young team that takes the field tomorrow will not give in and this has to be taken as a learning experience for the future.
There is no 2nd XV fixture tomorrow but I have to report a fine away win last Saturday v Cumnock. The under 18’s have a scheduled fixture v GHA.
On Sunday the S1 and S2 teams are away to GHA and the u15 & u16 teams are at home. The Micros and Minis continue at their usual times.
Our previous DO, Stewart Magorian, is now living and working in Oregon, USA for USA rugby. He has recently become a father to Lachlan who is sure, with his genes, to become either a rugby player or a horseman. Stewart has organised a 18 year old promising Oregon player to come to Whitecraigs for six months from 1st December. This is for both a rugby and life experience We are currently sorting out accommodation for him but are looking for someone to offer him a temporary home, preferably with someone of a similar age. If you can help out, please contact Jon Jewitt.
It is interesting to note that along with Stewart we also have another Craigs man involved in rugby in the USA. Stevie Swindall is coaching and still playing! with the Austin Blacks Rugby in Austin, the State capital of Texas. Great to see them still involved albeit on the other side of the Atlantic.
I would remind you about the Rugby Memories Meeting on Monday 28th November at 7pm. Jon Jewitt has arranged this in conjunction with Alzheimer Scotland and the idea is to provide an opportunity to chat/reminisce/debate over rugby related topics in a relaxed atmosphere. The aim is to be informal, relaxed and most of all to have fun. If you know of anyone who could be helped by this initiative please contact me and I will provide further information.
The St Andrews Ball is next Saturday, 26th November and I believe there are a limited number of spaces available. Contact Percy for further details.
Today’s sponsor is Orr Fire Protection who have recently become the Squash Section Sponsor. Well done to Ally McLeod ex rugby player and now current squash player.
Scotland take on Argentina at Murrayfield and we all hope that they can turn narrow losses into wins. We all know that winning increases the confidence of everyone involved in Scottish Rugby.
Tonight Scotland Women play Spain in the first leg of a two leg series for the final place in the World Cup to be held in Ireland next year. If you can get along and support them at Scotstoun tonight. If not, it is on BBC Alba.
Have a great weekend.
Graeme
There is a large amount of sports kit/clothing and even a set of golf clubs lying on the bag rack. These will be cleared away by Monday 21st Novemebr unless removed.
Also the Ladies toilet is currently undergoing refurbishment and will be closed until Friday 25th November. Please use the Disabled Toilet and sorry for any inconvenience.
