Good Morning from a Wild West Lodge,
The 1st XV return to West Lodge tomorrow in a Tennents National 2 league match v Lasswade. The boys are determined to return to winning ways after the nail biting 26-26 draw against Glasgow Accies, last Saturday. We are playing good rugby and the defence has improved since the beginning of the season. Kick Off is at 3.00pm so if you can, get down and encourage the boys, they deserve it.
The 2nd XV hope to return to action this week after two fallow weeks through no fault of their own – no referee and no opposition. They are away to Clydebank and will be looking to continue their winning ways and their position at the top of the table.
The Rhinos are not in action this weekend after their victory at Cartha last weekend. However, they have a busy week ahead as they prepare for their game next Saturday in Blairgowrie. Passports dusted down, vaccinations organised and much discussion re provisions for the long journey. Just remember the old adage, count them out, count them back!
The Galant Conference has finished just in time for the October week holidays. We have seen many tremendous performances from u13 through to u18 which shows that rugby is truly heading in the right direction at West Lodge. It is a huge testament to the hard work of the players, coaches and not forgetting the parents. In the leagues, the under 15 squad finished top, u16 squad finished mid table and the under 18 squad finished 2nd in a very competitive league. This is very encouraging and bodes well for the future.
A reminder that the Performance Camp runs for all u13 to u18 players next week (Tuesday to Thursday). This will be the first Performance Camp under new Development Officer, Caitlyn Haldane, so well worth attending. Sign up by e-mailing president@whitecraigs,org
Another positive week for the squash teams with 3 victories and 1 loss. 1st team beat Hamilton 14-6, 2nd team beat Hamilton 14-9, 3rd team beat Western 15-10 and 4th team lost to Newlands 16-4. A great effort by all those taking part especially when we are one of the very few non racquet ball Sports Clubs taking part in the leagues.
On a sad note, I have to report the death of Past President (1986 to 1988), Tom Shepherd. Tom played rugby for us back in the 70s and was a stalwart of the 3rd XV. He then was instrumental in the formation of our Mini section and went onto be President. When we moved up to West Lodge, he took on the role of Grounds Convenor which he managed pitch usage with an iron fist. Tom was a character and enjoyed the companionship of a rugby club and made life long friends through his association with Whitecraigs. Tom had suffered ill health for a number of years and our sympathies are with his sons Craig and Tom who are still associated with the Club. His funeral takes place on Thursday 18th October at 10.00 am at Linn Crematorium and then to the Redhurst Hotel. Tom was another one of the good guys and will be missed.
A reminder that subscriptions are now overdue. If you have to alter your standing order, please do so as the Club cannot do this for you.
Finally, if you no longer wish to receive these regular newsletters by e-mail, please e-mail email@example.com and your address will be removed from the list.
Have a great weekend and wrap up against the wild and wet weather that is forecast.
