Good Evening from a very picturesque West Lodge,
As the sun slowly sinks into the Western horizon, it is time to turn our thoughts to rugby. Yes, the season is about to commence at West Lodge.
There has been a lot activiity over the summer but Senior rugby starts in earnest this Saturday with the opening fixture in BT National 2 at home v Dumfries Saints with a 3pm kick off. There have been a few new faces over the summer with a couple making their debut on Saturday. We also welcome back Luis Barron after his foray to the other side of Fenwick Road and I am delighted to announce that our ever popular hard tackling South African centre Phil is back and looking forward to another season with the Mighty.
Our co-captains Stuart Pollock and Jamie Howarth will be leading from the front and will be demanding similar commitment from their fellow players. The coaching team of Stuart Henderson, Alex Edmonstone and new arrival Chris Reid are satisfied with the pre-season work and matches played but are awaiting keenly the first real encounter of the long season ahead. Kick off is at 3pm, the weather forecast is fair and the players need your support, so get to West Lodge – you can make a difference!
The under 18 team, led by new coach, Tonci Bursov, have already have one win under their belt in the Galant Conference – the small matter of Glasgow Hawks! You may wonder about the name of the conference but all the School and Club Youth Conferences are sponsored by Mitsibushi Motors and each conference is named after a model in their range. They play our near neighbours and close rivals GHA at West Lodge with a 2pm ko. So if you get down early you can support both teams.
This season we have a new Main Sponsor – Harry Fairbairn BMW and MINI – and we thank them for their invaluable support.
I would also like to thank all our other sponsors who will appear on this weekly e-mail and would ask you to support them as they support us. A list of the sponsors can be found on the web site www.whitecraigs.org , in the match day programme and also on notices throughout the Club.
The Minis and Micros are back at their usual time on a Sunday morning. The other Youth sections are also playing GHA on Sunday either here or at Braidholm.
Season tickets will be available on Saturday at the bargain price of £50 for the season. I will be on hand to distribute them and take the money.
The work on Pitch 3 progresses albeit slowly but it is best done correctly.
Saturday, also sees the return of the “Spot of Lunch” Club and we look forward to renewing our acquaintance with this band of rugby veterans. Extra Claret has been ordered, the defibrillator serviced and the local medical services are on high alert for the return on this merry band of men.
Finally, the subscription notices have sent out so please return your payment as soon as possible. For those who pay by standing order, please ensure that you are paying the correct amount and adjust your payment if needed. Please return the form if you have changed your category or any of your personal details.
Sorry to be so long winded this week but it is the first one of the season.
Have great weekend.
