Juniors

Juniors

At Whitecraigs, our youth section are part of the Youth “Galant” Conference division within the SRU. That means that all teams from Under 13 to Under 18 will play the same opposition which aids with minimising travel issues for clubs/parents.

Under 18s

This is the last age specified squad before the players are unleashed into the competition and enjoyment of senior rugby.

Our head coach is Tonci Buzov who is the former captain of the Croatian national team prior to his retirement from playing duties a few years ago. He is a dedicated coach holding a UKCC Level 2 Coaching Award whilst providing part time coaching services to the Croatian National Squad and Strathclyde University rugby programme. He is currently working towards his Level 3 Coaching award.

Tonci is ably assisted by Alasdair Beaton who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience through his numerous years coaching and refereeing at the club.

All our coaches are PVG checked and have completed the World Rugby “Rugby Right” qualification as well as the further UKCC coaching awards. They are always striving to improve themselves and any players they work with.

We train on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7.00pm until 8.30pm with matches held on a Saturday afternoon.

The main focus of this squad is to broaden the rugby knowledge of all players and develop position specific guidance to ensure that all players will maximise their potential over the course of their career.

Whilst we develop and help the players to become the best they can be, our overwhelming main aim is for the players to have fun and enjoy playing rugby.

We are always looking for additional help and additional players in aspects with this age group. If you are interested in helping or your son is interested in playing, please come along to training on a Tuesday or Thursday night or contact team administrator Alasdair Beaton by email Alasdair.Beaton@scofro.com or on his mobile, 07977424936

Under 16s

We have a wealth of coaches assisting this age group, all of whom are PVG checked and have completed the World Rugby “Rugby Right” qualification.

Graeme Wilson, Michael Palmer and Craig Percival all hold a current UKCC Level 2 Coaching award whilst Roy Gallacher and David Millar are currently working towards achieving their coaching qualifications. The team is further supplemented by one of our Under 18 players, Greg Innes who is starting his coaching journey and seeking to develop alongside the players.

Our strong team of coaches emphasise a strong team ethos whilst also providing individual advice and assistance to ensure that all players or all abilities can remain involved and enjoying their rugby.

We train on Wednesday night from 7.00pm until 8.30pm with matches held on a Sunday afternoon.

This is a transitional year and represents the first opportunity for the team to play on a full sized rugby pitch. Our coaches (David Fernie and Scott McKechan), both of whom are PVG checked and have completed the World Rugby “Rugby Right” qualification help develop the players core skills whilst ensuring that every player is actively involved.
