Some Information on Tartan Touch:
Tartan Touch, Scottish Rugby’s simplified non-contact version of rugby, is to expand by 50 per cent and break new ground following a successful first year that raised thousands of pounds and boosted squad numbers.
The game provides fun, social rugby for adults and children of all abilities looking to improve their fitness.
Scottish Rugby is expanding the programme to 30 clubs as far afield as Shetland and Kelso, which will have the opportunity to capitalise on the focus the NatWest 6 Nations gives to rugby at this time of year, inviting people to get involved at their hubs.
In its first year, the 20 host clubs raised £14,000 and reported an increase in training numbers and retention after welcoming 1,800 players through their gates.
Nick Rennie, Head of Club Services at Scottish Rugby, said: “Tartan Touch has been a huge success so to expand to more clubs is fantastic.
“Giving more people a chance to play rugby in a way that suits them is incredibly important and having clubs in all parts of the country will certainly boost that.
The initiative is all about simple, social activity so it’s been great to see such a range of people enjoying the game in a relaxed and fun setting.”
New host clubs include Madras, Highland, Hillhead/Jordanhill and Shetland as the initiative grows into new areas.
Haddington, Selkirk, Strathmore, Strathendrick, Garioch, Whitecraigs, Paisley and Ayr will also get their first taste of Tartan Touch.
All hubs are provided with playing equipment, balls, banners, marketing materials and advice on promoting their hub to encourage the local community to get involved.
Ambassadors from each hub are also invited to BT Murrayfield ahead of the ten-week season to take part in training for leading sessions.
How to pay if your not a member:
Eventbrite, an online ticketing and registration platform, will administer sign up to the Tartan Touch Summer Passes and sessions with online booking forms. These can be accessed via the official Tartan Touch website and will go live on Monday 16th April.
Eventbrite allows for Tartan Touch players to pay online, where they accept payment via credit and debit card. The Summer Pass will be on sale from Monday 16th of April at a cost of £24pp and a single session will cost £3pp. We encourage centres to promote the Summer Pass, as this will give Tartan Touch players a saving and they will also be automatically entered into a competition to win two tickets to the Autumn Internationals at BT Murrayfield.
At the end of the Tartan Touch season, we will issue centres with a single payment for the Summer Pass and sessions. To cover the costs of the Eventbrite booking fees, clubs will receive £2.34 from each £2.31 session and £21.95 from each £24 Summer Pass.
