Coaching/Volunteering Qualifications

In order to achieve the highest standard of coaching, we must promote coaching excellence, which can be carried out in a number of different ways from simple to the more complex.

The minimum standard required by the Scottish Rugby Union is “Rugby Right“. All coaches must undertake this as the most basic level, upon which there are many opportunities to seek more advanced levels. If your rugby knowledge is good, Rugby Right can sat within a matter of minutes. If you require to review the excellent SRU guidance videos, Rugby Right can be completed in an hour and is free.

If you are confident to take your qualifications further then you can try the UKCC Level 1, which the Club will fund your course. This is usually a weekend course at a local venue and will give you further confidence to participate in a higher level of coaching. After this there is Level 2, Level 3 and you can go up to professional standard.

PVG – Persons of Vulnerable Groups. To coach children you must undertake your PVG background checking, which the Club will fund.

Refereeing – Courses exist for Members and Coaches to undertake their Referee’s qualifications through the West of Scotland Referees Association. Without referees we have no game and we welcome all members/coaches to undertake this qualification.

First Aid – As we are a contact sport, there is from time to time a requirement to use First Aid and it is important we have qualified First Aiders to be on hand. This can also save lives. Each age group should have a qualified First Aider and we welcome anyone to undertake this course. The cost of this will be bourn by the Club.

Child Protection – This is now such an important issue that the Club is committed to following the best practise and we are duty bound to have a Child Protection Officer. The nature of the Club means that the more qualified persons we have in Child Protection awareness, the more effective we can be to be an exemplar organisation in this respect. Courses are run through East Renfrewshire Council and Whitecraigs will fund any Member/Coach willing to participate.

If you are interested in undertaking any of the above qualifications, or courses, please do not hesitate to contact the Club for further details. The Club is only as good as the quality and effectiveness of our Volunteers and the better prepared we are, the better we will take the Club forward.
