Whitecraigs 1xv match today versus third place Dunfermline was rescheduled from December due to a waterlogged pitch. Today’s match threatened the same fate. With early tending to the pitch and both teams and referee keen to play it was game on.
Some spectators braved the conditions at pitch side but many wisely watched from the shelter of the clubhouse .
The conditions added a real test to how the teams would play today with conditions persisting through kickoff and for the full duration of the game.
Dunfermline scored within 5 minutes and converted to lead 0-7 as both teams attempted to settle into some sort of game plan to combat the elements.
Whitecraigs didn’t take long to find their form of recent and the team worked hard to score three tries by half time, converting two to lead 19-7.
Two yellow cards for Whitecraigs early in the second half offered the visitors an advantage in the unpredictable conditions. The Whitecraigs players pulled together and limited Dunfermline to one try before they too had a yellow carded issued and the Whitecraigs full compliment of 15 back on the pitch. Advantage now to Whitecraigs scoring to lead 24-14 with just over 20 minutes to go.
Dunfermline scored two more tries, unconverted to draw the match 24-24 with both teams earning 3 points each. This elevates Whitecraigs from sixth to fifth in the table at the moment and dependant on the results of other rescheduled fixtures next Saturday.
Whitecraigs played with resilience, belief and quality moments which has developed through the season in this tough league competition .
